So isn't an off leash dog park meant for having your dogs OFF their leash? I took Dexter this week, which by the way means he sits behind me in the car either (a) leaning out the window letting his jowls flap in the wind and a smile on his face or (b) lean over the seat and drool or try to lick my ears.
He knows where he is going; he's been there before. He can hardly contain his excitement, the freedom of running untethered and playing with friends, any and all of them since Dexter knows no stranger. Leashed, we head to the entrance before I lean down and release him from my grip. Off, like a mad man he runs checking out every little furry shaking behind in the park.
That is before we met mood killer, the guy on the park bench with his itty bitty dog. To be fair, the guy had a right to be scared of Dexter hurting his wimpy friend. So immediately the guy tells me his dog doesn't like Boxers and I need to put Dexter back on his leash. I did until we got way past this guy, but I have to tell you I was not happy about it.
What I really wanted to tell the guy was pack your little dog and go to one of the 50 other parks in this park system so your dog can have his alone time all safe and sound. The whole point of an "off leash" dog park was so the dogs could actually be OFF their leash! Mood killer he was.
